Vulindlela Educational Trust (VET), a non-profit, community based organization aligns itself fully with the call to end the scourge on women abuse.
The United Nations (UN) declared 25 November as International Day Against Women Abuse. VET will be observing this day by holding a mass meeting to mark this day.
The rural communities around Tsomo, Eastern Cape, South Africa, that include young people and students will be addressed by traditional leaders, religious leaders and various government departments.
In an effort to take information on this matter to the people around Tsomo VET has been running a campaign since 2021 in different administrative areas. To date, the Trust has successfully carried out a number of campaigns on drug abuse and gender-based violence in partnership with the South African Police Services, department of Social Development as well as traditional and civic group leaders in Tsomo. The campaigns have targeted all age groups in the communities as no one must be left behind in fighting this scourge.
When the Trust was established, the trustees identified what they termed “barriers to education”. These are the obstacles which they identified as major stumbling blocks that make learner progression from grade R to grade 12 difficult and in some circumstances impossible leading to a rising number of school dropouts. One of the barriers is gender based violence and child abuse.
The VET campaign against gender based violence and child abuse is a conscious action to participate in saying NO MORE to abuse in all its forms.
